John White Alexander was an American artist and illustrator who specialized in portrait and figure paintings.

Alexander was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Oct 7, 1856. In the year of 1875, he started his art career to be a cartoonist as well as an illustrator. In order to receive art training, he went to Paris in 1877. One year later, Alexander took part in a colony of American artists. He also went to Italy too where he met Henry James and Mcneill. He went back to his country as an illustrator and well-known portrait artist. In 1895 he was honored an esteemed order for a set of murals. He then spent more time in promoting his art in the United States and gained a lot of custom mural and portrait orders.

John White Alexander passed away on 31 May 1915 in New York City.
