Jacques-Laurent Agasse is a French painter who mastered the art of animal painting. Agasse is considered one of the greatest animal painters of the eighteenth century. Johann Georg Meusel once declared him superior to the famous animal painter Wouwermans. Agasse, also known as J.L. Agasse, lived a poor life. He was a poor man but was inspired by the “resistless forces of his natural genius”.
The artist was extremely devoted to his art and studied anatomy. He was also a huge fan of English racehorses and was interested in their anatomy. One of his earliest works, Portrait of a Horse, was exhibited at the Academy of Fine Arts in 1801. The artist continued to exhibit his work until his death in 1845.
