Tobias Stranover was a Czech artist. He was born in Hermannstadt, Czechoslovakia, in 1684. He later lived in many places in Germany, and eventually settled in Berlin. His paintings often feature rural scenes with birds and utensils made from gold and silver. In these works, he shows the life of a farm in a rural landscape. A close relation to David Dallas, the artist’s friend, the painter’s uncle, is suggested.

Tobias Stranover’s early career was spent traveling and painting throughout Europe. He lived in Dresden, Hamburg, and England. His registrations are in Hamburg and Hermannstadt. His first wife was the daughter of a painter named Jakob Bogdany, and the couple eventually married in England. The two later moved to the Netherlands, where they were influenced by a variety of styles. During the first half of the 18th century, his paintings were in great demand.
